About

It all started last spring.  Something just clicked in my brain: I was so f-ing sick of being overweight, out of shape, and exhausted all the time.  I used to dread getting groceries when I lived on the second floor because I would be unbelievably exhausted by the time I was done carrying them up the stairs.

265lbs.  It’s seriously insane.  Almost just as insane to think that in a span of a few months I was down to 165lbs.  And now I have run half marathons, a marathon, and an ultra marathon.

“ERMAHGERD, I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU LOST 100LBS RUNNING!!11!”

Well, that’s good your don’t. Because I didn’t.  I didn’t run a single mile until I had already lost 80-ish pounds.

How did I lose all the weight then?  Walking and eating better.

Literally.

Okay, I started tracking everything I ate and got a Fitbit to track my activity levels.  Although, when it comes down to it, it was just from walking and eating better (less).  I was so ridiculously stubborn and determined to get 10,000 steps a day, 20 floors, and keep my net calories in check.  I felt possessed.

That was Spring 2012. So why am I starting a blog 1.5 years after losing 100lbs? Because I need some more motivation I really want to start documenting my thoughts, feelings, struggles, successes, etc. when it comes to running.

More importantly, January 1st, 2014, I began a running streak.

“The official definition of a running streak, as adopted by the Streak Runners International, Inc., and United States Running Streak Association, Inc., is to run at least one continuous mile (1.61 kilometers) within each calendar day under one’s own body power (without the
utilization of any type of health or mechanical aid other than prosthetic devices).”

I have no idea how long I’ll actually go with this, but it feels similar to when I started losing weight (that weird obsessed/determined feeling) and I don’t want to miss out on documenting this experience like I did the previous one.

I can’t believe I didn’t write a journal/blog/anything while losing 100lbs in 4 months.  It seriously is my biggest regret with regards to the weight loss.

My goal is to update this once a week.  Probably Sunday or Monday.  We’ll see whether I am as determined about this as I am running everyday.
